Many Uses, Many Owners
What a history the Bayview Market building has! Back in the early 1920’s, shorty after World War One, the building was built by Bert Drader to be used as a club hall. Known as the GVWA, the first floor’s many rooms were used for games, meeting rooms and spaces to rent out and the second floor was a dance hall.
After the Depression Years, the building was then sold to Frank Pearce who converted the 2nd level into hotel rooms and the downstairs area into a café and a general store. During World War Two, Pearce retired from hotel and store-keeping and sold the business to Aero Timber Products who used it as a storehouse for supplies for the Juskatla Camp.
The following owners, Ernie Chapman and his wife Maureen, reverted the building back into a grocery store and operated it for many years until it was bought by Don and Linda Shymanski who turned it into Bayview Market. The Lore family then purchased the business from the Shymanskis and remain it’s owners today.
