Learn the basic paddle strokes and methods of Stand Up Paddleboarding including flatwater, surf, and expedition. After 2 weeks of training by Paddle Canada Certified Instructors, participants will paddle an open ocean expedition.
Dates:
Session 1: August 15 & 22
Session 2: August 29 & September 5
Times: Day 1: 6-8 pm, Day 2: 6-9 pm
Locations: Pure Lake and Masset Inlet
Ages: 18+
Cost: $150 plus GST

Course Outline
Day 1: Pure Lake (2 hours)

1. Learn: board design, transporting SUP, paddle features, sizing and grip, leashes and use, clothing systems, hypothermia, decision making, safety equipment for day trip.

2. Learn: stand up, forward stroke, forward sweep stroke, reverse sweep stroke, pivot turns, cross bow turn, draw stroke, surf stance.

3. Learn: rescues.

4. Practice: stroked and a small endurance paddle.

Day 2: North Beach Surf Shop (3 hours)

1. Learn: map reading

2. Learn: weather prediction / websites / tides and currents

3. Paddle Masset Inlet

All equipment provided (stand-up paddleboard, paddle, wetsuit, personal floatation device [PFD]). Maximum 5 participants; no experience necessary, but a baseline of fitness is required.
