The Haida Gwaii Film Festival 2015 is bringing over 50 films from Haida Gwaii, Canada and around the world!
This part of the festival will be showcasing films produced by the youth from Masset , Old Masset and Skidegate!
Highlights:
“In The Land of Head Hunters” by Edward S. Curtis. This film will be Introduced by Colin Brown Colin Brown who was an advisor and supporter of the project. He is a documentary filmmaker and taught film production and film history at SFU, specializing in my film history classes on Canadian and BC film.
“Tracing Roots” by Ellen Frankenstein (Delores Churchill and Ellen Frankeinstein will be in attendance.) A master weaver’s journey to understand a spruce root hat in a retreating glacier. “Delores Churchill and the Hat of the Long Ago Person Found.”
“LAKE OUENTIRONK” by David Donar. This is an animated landscape that incorporates traditional water color painting to create a vibrant and moving picture to capture the various seasons as well as the fluid changes of water land and sky of this wonderful area. This film explores the lake in it’s natural habitat before Samuel de Champlain visited the area over 400 years ago.
“My Legacy” by Helen Haig-Brown, follows Helen Haig-Brown as she explores the often tenuous relationship between a mother and daughter made more complex by the legacy of residential school, taking us through a journey of healing the impacts of inter-generational trauma on trust, bonding, love and self worth.
